Today in “capitalism is the most efficient way to
distribute resources:”
a new study
from the American College of Surgeons and the UNC Cecil G.
Sheps Center finds that 15,000,000 Americans don’t have
access to a general surgeon in their county.
Prior thoughts:
I think that love is yearning for the well-being of
another as if it were your own, and despair when you
cannot deliver it.
“But capitalism is the most efficient way to distribute
resources!” Meanwhile,
35% of Chicago households do not have enough food, including almost half of all households with a
child. You know, I kinda don’t care if we only get to pick
between two kinds of mustard under a different economic
system.
If we
do not have the right to clean drinking water, we do not have the right to life, let alone liberty or
the pursuit of happiness.
Coming from EndeavourOS (which I really like), I had the
idea in my head that Fedora KDE was some sort of
Shangri-La where everything just worked out of the box.
Well, I can’t install KDE applications using Discover for
some reason, attempting an upgrade with Discover went
very poorly, and Kmail is crashing every time I
attempt to send a signed email. By comparison, Endeavour
was rock solid, although there’s so much more you need to
do manually. All I really want is a good OOTB experience
without a bunch of manual setup, recent packages, not too
much system maintenance, and reliable graphical package
management. Is that too much to ask?
Good read
on LLM mathematical “proofs.” TLDR, like most of the LLM
hype, they’re bunk.
Guy creates a fake classified program in the CIA and uses
it to hide $40M worth of gold bars in his basement—work
expenses, he says.
You can’t help but respect the initiative.
I love the “oud from Mozambique” line from
Pete & Bas. I crave more creative flexes in rap lyrics; I’m so
bored with Ferraris. But a sapele Boos Block? Now you’ve
got my attention!
Apparently
the vast majority of republicans do not see me as
american
despite the fact that I was born a citizen. Considering
how I’ve been treated in predominantly republican areas, I
can’t say I’m surprised. And honestly, like, what are they
even gatekeeping? Compared to many first world countries,
the quality of life here is ghastly. No interest in
improving anything, either. The attitude is if you don’t
like it, you should leave.
I’ve had enough of this heatwave, thanks. You can stop
now.
I wish that before companies bolted-on AI assistants to
their products, they first considered whether they have
been neglecting basic quality of life features like fuzzy
search, trimming whitespace from inputs, good info
hierarchy and discoverability, etc. Like, if your software
is a labyrinth full of foot-guns, of course people are
going to want a magic lamp.
Shoyeido’s Overtones Patchouli is a banger. It really
should come in a box of 450 5.25 inch sticks; I’d buy one
in a heartbeat.
Starting the day with some pinhead oats with banana and
peanut butter, Middle Mountain Duck Shit Aroma Dan Cong
Oolong from Yunnan Sourcing, and a stick of Tennendo’s
Kyara. Got to love Saturday mornings.
It is just me, or is anyone else facing a deluge of
reading comprehension issues when trying to communicate
with others these days? Like, I can write things clearly,
in plain language, multiple times, with bullet points, and
folk still aren’t getting it. What is going on?!
This exercise stuff isn’t all that bad after all.
Mefjus’ Manifest is a hell of an album. No one
puts out such pristinely produced tracks as Drum and Bass
artists.
Can we stop making fun of people who play the lottery
please? We know we’re not going to win it; we’re just
paying for that brief, illogical feeling of hope.
A harsh truth for any new graphic designers out there:
Most times, you’ll get a logo. It will occasionally be
vector. Once in a blue moon, it will also be CMYK / spot.
Your client does not know what these things mean. They
will never know what these things mean. There is nothing
you can do about it.
